Item Description
Largest 2.5x4-1/8"/smallest 1-1/8x1-9/16". c.1937. Text on thin stock card translates to "Deputy For Asturias/Member Of The Political Bureau Of The Communist Party Of Spain." Stamps include; two w/text translating to "Proletariat Solidarity" and one w/portrait of Ibarruri and group name at bottom. Ibarruri was an important Communist politician known as 'La Pasionaria/The Passionflower' and is best remembered for her slogan during the Battle for Madrid "No Pasaran/They Shall Not Pass." Card has two and each stamp has one .75" area of surface paper loss from scrap book mounting otherwise only light even toning. Exc. Ted Watts Collection.
