Item Description
3.5" dia. button issued during the famous home-run duel of 1961. This historic race for a home-run total ended in Sept. when Mickey Mantle suffered an injury but Roger Maris continued hitting home-runs and hit the record-breaking 61st home-run on Oct. 1, 1961. While this rare 3.5" button is from the Muchinsky Collection, it is not the plate example button shown in his book as item #4 on page #555. Reverse of the button has just trivial loss of silver flashing. Front of button has a single pinpoint black dot slightly above Maris's head, but o/w the entire surface of the button displays totally clean. There is only the slightest bit of general surface wear that will catch reflected light. The button is NM and displays Mint as made. The Muchinsky book guide value on this rare button is $4,000.
