Item Description
Original Snow White illustrated paper-covered cardboard box w/illustrated end label contains 11" tall doll by Ideal. 1938. Box illustrations feature Snow White, the Dwarfs and the Evil Queen as well as forest animals and "An Ideal Doll" text. Lid has two corner splits and 1" side panel tear. Lid also has strip of clear tape along center of one side panel; opposite side has noticeable surface paper lift from tape removal. Box end label has some insect damage but stamped "Grumpy" name as well as most of illustrated design remains distinct. Fine. Multiple size/style dwarf dolls were produced that year by not only Ideal, but also Knickerbocker and Krueger. Ideal made this larger size doll in two versions, this is version w/stuffed oilcloth head and arms while the other version has composition head/arms. Nice doll w/stuffed fabric body, mostly felt outfit (w/corduroy pants), painted composition face w/plush beard and hat w/"Grumpy" name silk-screened on front. Complete w/leatherette belt and 1.5x2-3/8" illustrated cardboard tag still attached at front of shirt. Outfit and body remain very clean, though hands have a few areas of small flaking. Doll is o/w NM and as nice as these come. Tag is Mint.
