Item Description
One of many versions, this is early 1930s "Exhibition Set" No. 2012. 20.5x26.5x3" deep cardboard box w/illustrated lid label featuring graphics of child magician w/wand pointing to table w/several magic tricks, including top hat w/white rabbit. Front of tablecloth has image of winged devil w/"Mysto" name. A.C. Gilbert, early 1930s and one of the largest Gilbert sets of the time, originally sold for $10 (a rather steep price for the period). Box has moderate corner tip/edge wear w/one lid corner split. Lid also has some fading to cardboard, but label on main lid panel remains bright. Box is Fine overall. Set appears complete and comes w/four different magic tricks instruction books (as well as duplicate "Gilbert Coin Tricks" book in different format) and die-cut insert w/magic tricks that include -  metal rings, metal-tipped wooden wand, magic coins, pair of "Three Star Blend" bottles, The Great Buddha Money Mystery," boxed deck of "Mysto" playing cards, another boxed deck of playing cards ("Automatic Dollar Deck") and six card tricks in illustrated sleeves - "Papel Blanco Card Trick, Phantom Card Trick, Knock-Out Card Trick, Mysto Jacks Card Trick, Sphinx Card Trick, Pick-It-Out Card Trick" - as well as a variety of other magic trick items, including change purse. Instruction books included w/this set show varying handling wear/aging and are Fine-VF overall. Magic trick contents appear unused and aside from some scattered dust soiling, are VF-Exc. Nicely designed set. Only example known of this size. Barry Lutsky Collection.
