Item Description
1-3/8" medal which tests as 90% silver with hole at top, likely as issued. Obverse shows full figure sailor standing upon a rock next to upright anchor with perched eagle and sailing ship upon water in the background. Very bottom edge carries name "Stimpson" with ribbon above bearing slogan "Don't Give Up The Ship". Ribbon from eagle's beak across top reads " U.S.N.W. Temperance Socy".  Reverse around reads "U.S.N. Washington Temperance Society 1842" enclosing a pair of clasped hands and seven lines of text, "We Agree To Abstain From All Intoxicating Liquors Except For Medicinal Purposes and Religious Ordinances". Upper right of reverse has tiny 1/8x1/8" area with barely seen faint surface scratching. Almost no wear to the details. Exc.
