Item Description
19x23". Oil on canvas signed in upper right corner "Precht 1933" w/logo of Socialist Labor Party in top left corner. A similar painting by Fred A. Precht (1863-1942) of De Leon was used as a frontispiece of the Socialist Labor Party Golden Jubilee published in 1940.  An example is illustrated on color page 16 of Images Of American Radicalism by Paul Buhle and Edmund Sullivan. Reverse has inscription "Daniel De Leon In 1907 At Antwerp On The Road To Stuttgart Congress." Two small holes have been repaired by a master restorer and are only visible on reverse. Displays NM. A superlative work featuring one of the leading Socialist figures in American history. Ted Watts Collection.
