Item Description

14x21-7/8" thin cardboard poster for Nov. 16, 1952 concert that took place at The Brown County Jamboree in Bean Blossom, IN. The Jamboree began as a free concert that took place every Sunday from roughly Easter through Thanksgiving. There were usually two shows a day; afternoon and evening, and in the early years (1941-1957) a one-hour segment of the show was often broadcast over various Indianapolis and Columbus, IN radio stations. It was used by local merchants, including several local grocery stores, to help promote business. This poster features photo image of The Carter Sisters, an American singing quartet consisting of Maybelle Carter (listed as "Mother Maybelle") and her daughters June Carter Cash, Helen Carter and Anita Carter that was formed during World War II, recording and performing into the 1990s. The poster advertises the group as "Direct From WSM Grand Ole Opry" and features two grocer advertisements at bottom corners - Martha White Flour and Coffee. Poster has horizontal and vertical crease running through center but remains bright and clean and still displays VF overall.
