Item Description
16x19.5" double mat w/9.75x13.25" opening features sheet of animation paper w/lead, red and blue pencil image area measuring 8.25x10.75". Art depicts the demonic character Chernabog shown recoiling from the first rays of dawn during the "Night On Bald Mountain" sequence of Disney's 1940 animated musical feature "Fantasia." Art is attributed to Vladimir "Bill" Tytla, an animator known for his work at Disney, particularly for the animation of Grumpy in "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs," Stromboli in "Pinocchio" and the title character in "Dumbo" as well as his work on Chernabog, as offered here. Tytla has signed art "T" at lower right, beside number "29" at lower right corner. Tytla's name can be faintly seen through where it is written on back of sheet at this area. Sheet has even lt. aging w/large handling crease at left (across Chernabog's wing), but art o/w remains clean and displays Exc. Great large and expressive image from this dark sequence and very desirable as such. Ready for framing. Jan Wahl Collection.
