Item Description
1.25" w/"OM. C" back paper having a "New York 157" union bug. Leonard Bates was the African American starting fullback for the NYU Violets . He was not allowed to travel with the team to Missouri because of a so called 'gentleman's agreement' that northern universities would not play African American athletes when visiting southern universities that objected. NYU students began picketing administration buildings in October of 1940 and issued these buttons shortly after. NM displaying Mint. Rare.
