Item Description
We've been dealing in advertising specialty items for 50 years and this is the first example we have seen of this clever give-away. The piece is about 3x5x1.5" tall. The base is made of steel with four individual legs and on the front are a pair of curved metal prongs upon which a pen would rest. On the top of the piece a single rivet holds a pair of black fiber board circles each topped by a 1.5" celluloid held in place by a reverse rivet. When these pieces are moved they reveal a pair of glass ink wells. The celluloid on the left depicts the "Olympia Girl" holding a tray with a pair of beer mugs she is about to serve. The second piece with flying eagle advertises "USA Pilsner/Pilsen Brewing Co./Chicago, Ill." The curl of each celluloid carries the name of the maker "Geraghty & Company, Chicago." The red celluloid is faded but only to the extent of about 5%. Both celluloids are clean and glossy. The other areas of the item show light general age but no damage. From the early 1900s and a rarity.
