Item Description
5-3/8x21-1/8" thin artboard w/India ink art by "Alley Oop" creator V.T. Hamlin. Art is for Aug. 22, 1939 daily strip and features four panels. Story takes place in Roman times, featuring Alley Oop in last two panels, wearing Roman centurion armor. On April 5, 1939, Hamlin introduced a new a time machine as a plot device which greatly expanded his choice of storylines, hence this Roman-themed strip. NEA Service, Inc. copyright strip in third panel. Back has large inked dates and some scattered penciling, none affecting front's display. Blank margins have a few pencil notes. Strip has four heavy vertical fold lines, one having archival tape reinforcements added on back. Art is only slightly affected, displaying VF.
