Item Description
Interesting original art lot showing the progression/development of this 1950s premium promotion. Lot includes 9.5x17.75" thin sheet of paper w/mixed media original art for sign showing seven (of eight) different images of "Jive Patches" featuring cartoon images and phrases like "See You Later Alligator, Hep Cat, Hep Chick," etc. Boy and girl are seen above this, wearing patches on their chests. Package of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Pizza mix is seen at right w/premium notice. Hand-lettered text at top includes "Teen-Agers - Get These Colorful Plastic 'Jive' Patches With Adhesive Backs, Ready To Stick On Sweaters, Shirts, Hats, Raincoats, Bandannas, Books, Etc." Text goes on to note patches were issued one per box of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Pizza mix. Sheet has three vertical creases and two horizontal creases. VG overall, but art remains clean and nice for display. Back has "A Creation Of Sam Gold - Premium King" foil crown sticker. 7-3/8x10" thin artboard has acrylic original art for two square patches, showing cartoon owl w/"You're Way Out!" text and cartoon alligator w/"See You Later, Alligator" text. Handwritten pencil text below notes "Actual Size - Jive Patches With Adhesive Backs."Artboard has attached paper overlay w/Jive note. Pinholes at top corners and at bottom center. Art is Exc. Lot also includes 8.5x11" artboard w/attached pair of 3x4.5" painted fabric "Jazz M' Tags" featuring same "See You Later - Alligator" and "Hep Cat" art as featured on sign art. Each has ring of fabric attached at top w/dotted line and "Cut Off Here" hand-lettered text. Artboard has some handling wear w/creases and is VG/Fine, but patches remain Exc. Comes w/sheet w/drawing/plan for this version of patches w/handwritten notes. Interesting lot showing three different stages these premiums went through during design. Unique. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
