Item Description
Pair of thin artboards w/India ink art by Harold Knerr, who took over the strip from creator Rudolph Dirks. Artboards measure 8x23" and 11-3/8x23" and comprise the complete Sunday page for Feb. 23, 1930. Art features total of 12 panels and shows Hans and Fritz knocking punchbowl onto Mister Chief's head, resulting in them being place inside a cage as punishment. There Captain and Chief head off to Chief's igloo while the boys escape and place dynamite in igloo. The boys then return to their cage as the igloo explodes. When The Captain and Chief come to investigate (fully suspecting the boys), they are confused as they appear to be still locked up. Mama Katzenjammer naps, dreaming of the boys as angels. Knerr has signed last panel. Tenth panel has Int'l Features Syndicate, Inc. copyright strip. Back has been hand-addressed (to King Features Syndicate recipient) by Knerr. Left/right front margins have a number of date stamps as well as penciled dates. Artboards have some scattered handling wear/aging, but art remains clean and Exc. overall.
