Item Description
Since Howard the Duck first appeared as a secondary character in "Adventure Into Fear" #19 (in the Man-Thing feature) in Dec. 1973, the character has graced numerous comic books, appeared in his own feature film (as well as having a cameo in the wildly popular "Guardians Of The Galaxy") and has been made into toys, but did you know he also starred in a short-lived daily comic strip? Marvel attempted a spin-off, w/a "Howard The Duck" newspaper strip from 1977 to 1978, initially written and drawn by his creators Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik (w/additional art by Gene Colan). Offered here is a 5.25x17" thin artboard featuring Mayerik's pen and ink original art in three panels, showing Howard and his occasional girlfriend Beverly Switzler in first panel, talking to police, who have just raided a retirement community upon learning of a massage parlor operating on the premises. Howard appears again in last panel assuring the officer that the establishment only offered massages, no funny business. Art was for Feb, 20, 1978 strip and has Marvel copyright strip pasteover between second and third panels. All word balloons are pasteovers, w/some aging due to adhesive. Last panel also has 5/8x1" spot of staining from missing pasteover. Artboard has some lt. handling wear but art remains clean and Exc. See following items #1408-1410.
