Item Description
Here are five buttons from the 1960s related to the civil rights theme as well as inner city destruction. Sizes are 7/8" to 1.5"  with the largest carrying curl text "Hip Products, Chicago". From c. 1967-68 is the satirical button with name of H. Rapp Brown certifying " In case of riot the wearer of this button is an Honorary Negro". Brown replaced Stokely Carmichael as head of SNCC in 1967 and endorsed violence which he described "as American as cherry pie". He resigned from SNCC in 1968 after being indicted for inciting to riot and then became Minister of Justice of the Black Panther Party.  All NM displaying Mint. Ted Watts Collection.
