Item Description
2-1/8". N.G. Slater on curl at 12 o'clock. Additional text reads "Pass Douglas Civil Rights Bill Now!" In 1958 and 1959 marches were organized by A. Phillip Randolph with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. serving as an honorary chairman. Both men spoke at the 1959 event that saw over 26,000 march down the National Mall. Other honorary chairman involved in these marches, aimed at unifying student movements in the North with those in the South to fight for integrated schools, included Roy Wilkins, Ralph Bunche, Jackie Robinson, and Daisy Bates. The Bill referenced was proposed in 1957 by Sen. Paul Douglas of Illinois. Several insignificant light gray spots in white background as made and trivial surface wear in reflected light. NM displaying Mint. The only other example of this historically significant and rare button we have offered exceeded $850.
