Item Description
This is the rarest Orphan Annie ring and, indeed, one of the rarest of all premium rings. Issued by Quaker cereals, very briefly, during their final year of radio program sponsorship in 1942. This example grades NM and is one of only two or three known in that high grade condition. The all brass ring has adjustable bands with a "Pursuit Plane" pictured on one side and a "Bombing Plane" on the opposite. Ring top has a small rivet holding three individual moveable plates. Each plate has a small hole of graduated sizes and the concept is to hold the ring to the sky to look at an airplane. If the airplane image fits within one of these holes then the plane is at an altitude designated on one of these three pieces as: 25,000 feet, 5,000 feet, or 10,000 feet. Overall the luster on both interior and exterior surfaces is essentially Mint. The only exception is at the base of the lower two moveable plates as the pressure from the rivet caused very slight circular lines of luster loss from the moving of the plates. The only other tiny flaw are a pair of tiny indents near the base of one of the moveable prongs. Beautiful all over and essentially Mint luster on the base as well as the top plate which shows when the plates are closed. A superb example overall.
