Item Description
8x11" for the World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion Gene Tunney and the challenger Jack Dempsey from Soldier's Field in Chicago, IL on 9-22-27. Gene Tunney had won the title from Jack Dempsey in their previous bout by decision. The first fight was supposed to be held in Chicago, but when Dempsey heard that Al Capone was a fan of his, he asked for it to be moved to avoid any connection to the mob and the fight was then held in Philadelphia. In this rematch, which was dubbed the "Long Count Fight", Dempsey knocked down Tunney in the seventh, but due to the new rule in place of having to move to a neutral corner, the count on Tunney didn't start until close to eight seconds after Dempsey moved, which some believe gave Tunney the opportunity to rest by taking advantage of a nine count before getting up. Tunney went on to win the fight which was subsequently Jack Dempsey's last fight. Many tickets are known to exist for this fight, but very few programs have come up for sale. Vertical fold through the center of the program with scattered wear. VG. A true boxing collectible rarity.
