Item Description
13" tall jointed doll by Ideal Novelty & Toys Co. 1940. Doll features composition movable head and upper body while rest of body is wood and jointed. Doll has been restrung and has had some professional restoration, w/some done to "S" chest decal. Doll has a few scattered hairline craze marks as is typical, including hairline at neck where cape meets rest of Superman's suit. Trace of wear w/typical lt. paint wear at joints. 2" vertical stresslines along left/right sides of torso. These are not greatly distracting. Superman's "S" chest decal has a number of tiny flakes, some w/color touch-ups. Decal displays VG. Belt decal shows scattered wear w/flaking on back, including at copyright text. Majority of text remains legible. Front of belt still displays nicely w/just a few pinpoint flakes. About 80% of belt decal remains. Cape is replacement (usually found either missing, incomplete or faded). Fine overall and still nice for display. A key piece for any Superman collection.
