Item Description
12x16x7-5/8" tall painted wood storage locker w/hinged lid and hasp/loop w/vintage lock and carry handle on side. 1940s. This is the personal wartime storage locker of Richard A. Maulick, who was a sign painter by trade prior to World War II. Storage locker has had nice art added to exterior, featuring nice pin-up image of leggy black-haired beauty on lid (w/Maulick's name and "Radio Box" text faintly visible underneath) and his name nicely painted on front. Underside of locker has nicely painted image of Sea Bees mascot, which holds smoking cigar in one hand, a machine gun in the other and has one arm in a sling. Hand-painted text above/below reads "South - Central - West Pacific," referencing Maulick's Pacific Theater tour. Maulick has also added locale names including Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor and others. Locker shows some scattered edge/corner tip wear and aging, but all art remains clean. Fine overall w/VF/Exc. art. Locker comes w/about 200 letters sent to him from family, friends and fellow servicemen, featuring great content throughout. These show expected aging/wear and are Fine overall. Lot also includes US Navy shipping card, Maulick's arm patch and custom made, jigsawed and painted wooden Sea Bees mascot. Some other personal effects and ephemera come along. Great wartime lot.
