Item Description
14x22" cardboard poster advertising a concert "Monday Nov. 25, 8:30," 1963 at "Santa Monica Civic Auditorium." Due to President John F. Kennedy's assassination just days prior to the scheduled concert date, the show was canceled, later being rescheduled for Dec. 6, 1964. Concert was a fundraiser to benefit Martin Luther King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). We offered a smaller thin paper poster for this show in auction 219 (lot #2700) and aside from that design this is the only other concert poster advertising the famed 'Rat Pack' trio. The bottom line of text has a repair to the "A" in "Wallichs." Additionally there is a pin hole at top and bottom center, some scattered light wrinkles from slight bends and corner wear. Fine. One of only two known to us, the other locked deeply in a major collection that is unlikely to be available in the near future. A truly special poster w/layers of important history and outstanding graphics.
