Item Description
8.5x10-7/8" cover to the Oct. 1931 issue of "Baseball Magazine" features photo portrait of Al Simmons inside front cover, w/"Al Simmons, Called By Many The Greatest Player In The American League" caption has been signed by Simmons in black ink. w/Simmons adding "Best Wishes To Joe" inscription. Simmons (1902-1956), was a MLB player who played for two decades as an outfielder and had his best years w/Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics during the 1930s. He also played for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators, Boston Braves, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox. He was inducted into the Baseball HOF in 1953. Cover has margin trim w/some scattered handling wear and two tiny nicks along right margin. Lower right corner has .25" tear. Inscription and signature had tape placed over them in a misguided attempt to preserve them. Majority of tape has loosened over the decades (w/two small strips still in place over Simmons' name) and tape has aged this area. VG overall. Early signature. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
