Item Description
3.25x3-5/8x5/8" thick hinged embossed leather case (w/added cloth tape hinge reinforcement) w/plush velvet lining and exterior metal hook latch contains sixth plate daguerreotype showing studio portrait of Union artillery sergeant major in uniform w/sword held across lap. Hand-tinted w/gold accents added to uniform buttons, buckle and sword hilt. 1860s. Case shows moderate wear w/.75" corner square of leather covering off on upper right front corner and .25" corner piece off lower left corner on back. Case is VG overall, but inner brass frame remains bright and displays Exc. along w/tintype, which retains a sharp image.
