Item Description
Elaborate 15x17.75x8" deep tin body sign w/embossed and painted wooden frame front and painted cast iron feet. 1920s and made for use in department or company-owned stores. Top of sign has "W&O" intertwined company initial crest. Sign features image of fashionable female spectators at golf game w/sign reading "Golf Club - National Open Championship - Walk-Over Shoes Everywhere." Sign has slot at top to change out signs and porcelain socket to hold bulb inside and has newer cord w/on/off switch. This socket, as made, flashes the light in a delayed cycle. The paper sign that comes w/the display is between two pieces of glass as designed. The sign is backed w/black paper w/cut-outs providing a silhouette effect. When bulb flashes, golfer, woman in foregrounds outfit and hat, other hats plus bkg. sky and hanging sign light up. Scattered lt. wear/aging. VF overall. Scarce display.
