Item Description
9-3/8x26.5" beautifully crafted custom frame holds artboard w/pen and ink original art for "Minute Movies" Episode 41, "Sun And Sand," published Sept. 25, sometime in the 1930s. Art by creator Ed Wheelan features a two-part story that parodies then current movies set in the Middle East. Top strip features two men in dungeon cell, wondering why they were put there, one man concerned w/what "That Fiend El Kardah" might have done w/his daughter. Second strip features the daughter, Jeanne, crying about her decision to marry the Sheik in order to save her friends as a disguised (but still stereotypical blackface) Phineas is led to a secret exit by the Sheik's jealous wife, who refers to him as "Black One." Upper left corner has 1.5" tear w/tape repair. Art is o/w clean and VF/Exc. Art is further enhanced by great frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing various "Minute Movies" comic strip panels from the 1930s. Bottom center has separate "plaque" w/"Minute Movies" title block attached for neat display. Dan Makara Collection.
