Item Description
1.75x2" soft dark leather pouch stamped on the front flap "Verdun." This holds 5.5" tall lightly tanned original certificate picturing the medal and with text in both English and French which includes "By A Resolution Of The Town Council Of Verdun Assembled At Paris On November 20, 1916." Paper has creases as originally folded. The bronze medal is 1-7/16" with obverse showing helmeted and armored bust of Joan de Arc holding a sword beneath the slogan "On Ne Passe Pas". Obverse also includes name of medalist Vernier and date of 1917. Reverse has city name and date of "21 Fevrier 1916". One of the most devastating battles in the history of warfare lasting 303 days with some 306,000 battlefield deaths and at least a half million wounded. Medal is Mint with the other two pieces Exc.
