Item Description
Around 1900 there were about 300 New York citizens, all men, who served on the Sheriff's Jurys. The men were divided into three separate panels and the sheriff selected men from the first, second or third panel to serve.  There were elaborate annual banquets, reported in the New York Times,  and the menus for these elegant soirees are highly collectible today along with other event souvenirs  such as picture frames, cuff links, and this type of item. A 5" long multi-section badge that served as a pocket watch fob with a spring clasp at the top to join to the pocket watch loop. Top front ribbon design reads "First Panel Sheriffs Jury".  Medal at bottom shows female symbol for justice with blindfold, sword and scales. There is also a NYC coat of arms showing beavers and windmill blades. Reverse has hallmarks and is stamped "Sterling" while reverse of medal reads "First Panel Sheriff's Jury January 21st, 1902". Normal tarnish but NM.
