Item Description
All 7/8" and all with back papers. The five boroughs consolidated as New York City in 1898 and the first four buttons in this group show the four 1897 candidates vying to be consolidated city's first mayor. The first three buttons each read "For Mayor Of Greater New York" and show in order "Henry George", the "single tax" advocate who died four days prior to the election and replaced by his son; "Seth Low" the Citizen's Union candidate; and "Benj. F. Tracy" the Republican candidate. Fourth is the Democratic party nominee and winner with text "For Mayor Robt. A. Van Wyck". All but Low have an 1/8" faint age mark. Fifth button is from 1901 with text "For President Of The Borough Of Brooklyn Edmund H. Driggs" and sixth also from 1901 shows "Fusion Candidate (also GOP candidate and winner) For Mayor, Seth Low".  First four are VF and last two are NM.
