Item Description
Lot of five approx. 4.75x19" thin artboards, each w/four panels of India ink original art by Clarence D. Russell (1895-1963) for 1936 "Pete The Tramp" daily strips, which were distributed by King Features Syndicate for more than three decades. Gags deal w/Pete swearing off marriage only to burn his dinner and wish for a woman; unsuccessfully hitchhiking and tying stick w/thumbs up glove to the tail of his dog Boy; Pete realizing he's missing the radio broadcast of a child rearing radio program down at the local store; trying to get hat back from baby, only to end up wearing the baby's bonnet instead; and getting in fight while carrying baby. Strips span Jan. 14 to Nov. 12, 1936 and each has KFS copyright strip and has been signed by Russell in last panel. Nov. 12 artboard is a bit thin. Scattered editorial notations at margins and scattered aging/wear. Fine to VF overall w/Exc. art.
