Item Description
c. late 1890s. 14-3/8x19.25" thin paper poster has had margins trimmed, but main image is complete w/minor loss at upper left corner. Poster has wonderful graphics of anthropomorphic sun looking shocked at procession of flying buses. Poster would have been displayed at newsstands of the period for one week only. Poster was printed by The Gillin Print Co. of New York. This particular poster was loaned by our consignor to the Smithsonian Institute for its exhibit "Yesterday's Tomorrows: Past Visions Of The American Future." This exhibit was at the museum Summer through Fall 1984 and then traveled around the country for several years. Poster was originally folded into quarters and shows margin wear w/aforementioned chipping at upper left corner. 1.75" and 2.75" tears at center left. Poster has been dry mounted to foamcore. VG overall, but if framed, would make for nice display as graphics invoke a Jules Verne feeling.
