Item Description
Ferrotype portrait in 1-3/8x1-5/8" embossed brass frame with original loop at top and name label on reverse. From a series depicting political leaders issued about 1862. Everett was a famous Massachusetts senator and the most popular orator of his day. He was actually the principle speaker, rather than Lincoln, at the dedication of the Gettysburg Battlefield Cemetary, November 19, 1863. Ferrotype surface has very minor .5" stress line on center left bkg. and scattered over the surface are about 15 extremely tiny dots under 1/16" that don't have the gloss that the surrounding emulsion does. Image is a little dark as typically made but all details are very clear and the piece displays extremely fine with the tiny defects hardly obvious at all unless viewed in reflected light.
