Item Description
5.75x8.5" yellow boards w/cloth on left quarter as issued. "First Edition" published by "Alfred A. Knopf, Inc." of this 1949 collection of Hughes' poetry that also features six woodcut prints by Jacob Lawrence. Missing original dust jacket and sun faded along spine edge. Essentially unused. Exc. Inscribed and signed in blue fountain pen ink "Especially For Wanda Stubbins, With Regard- Sincerely, Langston Hughes New York June 15, 1958" on the first free fly page. Only minor age toning at edge. Signature is NM. A bold and clear example of the legendary poet and champion of African American civil rights signature. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA/LOA.
