Item Description
18x20.5" frame contains vintage mat w/10x13" opening. Bottom right corner of photo has  "Copyright 1909 By Fred Hemment" text. Wide mat has white lettering done by hand at top and bottom reading "Jack Johnson, George Considine, Abe Attel, Bob Vernon, George Little, James J. Jeffries, Sam Berger, Bob Murphy." Bottom of mat reads "New York City Oct. 29. 09. - Signing Of The Articles Of The Jeffries-Johnson Contest Over A Case Of Pommery." Significant photo as this began the promotion of what was to be known as the "Fight Of The Century," which took place between James Jeffries and Jack Johnson on July 4, 1910 in Reno, NV. Wonderful expressions on both fighters' faces as well as surrounding attendees. Likely used as a Pommery Champagne promotion. Vintage frame is VF. Mat tear at upper left by Johnson name. Mat Fine.
