Item Description
2.25" w/"J. H. Huntzinger Adv. Co. Wichita, Kansas" back paper. Unlisted in Hake. Slogan at top "For President And Preparedness" w/portrait of the New York Governor and Republican Presidential candidate flanked by four draped American flags, six rifles w/bayonets affixed, a cannon and a snare drum. With Europe at war the 1916 election featured themes of preparedness for both candidates that was never illustrated better than on this outstanding design. For extreme accuracy we note a tiny spot at 5 o'clock on the extreme outer edge and a few scattered tiny raised bumps in the field just right and left of center, all of which are trivial given this buttons unique status. NM w/full gloss and almost no surface wear. This button has it all; color, graphics, exceptional slogan, size and rarity. Additionally, we note that this investment quality 1916 artifact can be paired w/a Woodrow Wilson produced in the same design. While the Wilson is extremely rare this Hughes is the only example known to exist, hailing from the famed Dr. Morton Rose collection. Those seeking to pair their Wilson w/this Hughes have had to wait over a quarter century for the opportunity making this a remarkable offering for the advanced collector that must not be ignored. See companion Hughes button by same manufacturer in next item #271.
