Item Description
17x22.75" thin cardboard window card produced by "Globe Posters Baltimore." This boxing style concert poster advertises a concert "Sun. Jan 24" at the "Armory Scranton, PA" that featured Frankie Avalon, Clyde McPhatter, Bobby Rydell, Johnny & The Hurricanes, The Crests, Freddy Cannon, Samme Turner, Linda Laurie, The Isley Brothers, The Clovers, Dick Caruso, Harold Cromer, The Paul Williams Orchestra and Cliff Richard, whose name is misspelled as "Richards." A .75" horizontal tear in the margin left of "The Crests" that barley affects the black background of the design and a 1" corner bump at lower right. Otherwise only moderate age toning and handling wear. VF. Outstanding fresh colors highlighted by dayglo pink. Headliner Frankie Avalon was riding the top of the charts w/the song "Why", listed here just left of his portrait, that was the final #1 hit of the 1950s. Bobby Rydell had six top 20 hits in 1960 and his '59 release listed here "We Got Love" climbed to #6 and spent 17 weeks on the charts. The Isley Bros. broke into prominence in '59 w/"Shout" in what has been an illustrious career spanning over five decades. At bottom center is a bit of foreshadowing w/the British Elvis Presley Cliff Richard billed as "England's No. 1 Singing Sensation." Richard didn't achieve American success until the 70s but his fellow countrymen, The Beatles, would soon take over the musical scene upon their arrival in 1963. This historic poster provides a fascinating window into the pre-British invasion landscape of American popular music from right on the launching pad of the decade that saw music as the major catalyst for cultural revolution.
