Item Description
Not to be confused w/a typical Sunday Comics section, these are totally different special inserts measuring 17.75x23.75" and published as Section Two of Saturday, July 11, 1942 and Wednesday, March 24, 1943 "Chicago Daily Tribune." Each is complete eight-page section w/full page specialty pieces on backs devoted to "Terry And The Pirates," featuring art by Milton Caniff. 1942 page has wartime "How To Spot A Jap" 11-panel comic strip. Intended to be educational, art does not feature as much of the jaded stereotypical depictions of the Japanese as was the norm at this time. This strip also appeared in the "Pocket Guide To China" publication issued by the War and Navy Departments. Faint horizontal crease at center as issued, w/moderate aging to top margin edge. Some scattered edge wear at right center, but still Fine/VF overall. 1943 page has "The Real Flip Corkin" feature, an illustrated biography of "The Gray Eagle" Lt. Col. Philip G. Cochran of the US Army Air Corps/US Army Air Forces, who developed many tactical air combat, air transport, and air assault techniques during World War II. Faint horizontal crease at center as issued, w/scattered edge wear including a few small edge tears. Pages remain clean, supple and Fine/VF overall. An interesting pair featuring content outside the regular "Terry And The Pirates" comic strip continuity.
