Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box contains 6-5/8" tall die-cut tin litho Toy No. 173 that was distributed by Geo. Borgfeldt under their Nifty brand name. 1931. Toy has spring plunger mechanism on back and depicts Mickey Mouse holding pair of drumsticks and has jointed arms. Separate tin litho drum is attached to pants and has "Mickey Mouse" name on front side and "Nifty Jazz Drummer" name on drumhead. This is variety w/drum in orange color variety w/green bottom and red/white drumhead (toy was also produced in red/white/blue color variety). Tab on front of drum securing drumhead has broken, but drumhead will remain in place for display. Missing separate tin tail that serves as prop for toy. Toy works well and when plunger is activated, the inner mechanism that would cause drumhead to rapidly move up and down, causing drumming noise to be produced. Works well. Mickey's arms move as if he is drumming. Back rim edge of drumhead has some small spots of missing paint. Mickey's face and hands have some moderate aging, o/w toy shows just lt. wear w/some tiny paint nicks. Bright and glossy w/strong color. Fine overall. Original box features Mickey and Minnie Mouse illustrations on two sides/both end flaps. Box has one inner flap loose but it is included. Box o/w shows very little aging or wear, w/just a few minor edge creases and two minor spots of staining but o/w remains VF for display. This toy is rarely found w/the box.
