8x11" thin cardboard image was cut from larger sheet that likely included text promoting High Admiral Cigarettes' 1896 giveaway series of Yellow Kid pinback buttons. Yellow Kid is depicted w/cigarette behind one ear, cigarette in his right hand and three cigarettes in shirt pocket. Images of his giveaway buttons #1, 2 and 3 (from numbered set of 160) are printed on his shirt. Cut-out has been glued to black paper backing that has some scrapbook mounting residue on reverse. Front image has multiple small crease lines on his top hat, a few on his face and a pin hole on his left shoulder where an actual button was once attached. A few tiny hairline slivers of missing surface paper off the hat area but all remains totally clean w/rich color. Comes w/custom acrylic display slab, perfect for display alongside your Yellow Kid button collection. Incomplete but the only example of this rare advertising piece we know of. We sold this very piece in 2004 for $2,481 and it has now been re-consigned to us. An amazing rarity to display w/your Yellow Kid button collection.
