Item Description
27x41" poster for the original release of the 1940 Universal film directed by Joe May and starring Vincent Price, Cedric Hardwicke, Nan Grey, John Sutton, Cecil Kellaway, Alan Napier, Forrester Harvey, Ernie Adams and Matthew Boulton. The second film in Universal's Invisible Man franchise, it was followed by an additional three films - "The Invisible Woman, The Invisible Agent" and "The Invisible Man's Revenge." Poster has evenly darkened w/age and had much paper loss at the middle fold crease intersection and a 6" long thin strip of paper loss at the bottom fold crease intersection, w/tiny paper loss at the top fold crease intersection. Poster also had paper loss in the left half of the middle horizontal fold and only a few small tears and tiny areas of paper loss on the rest of the folds along w/scattered paper loss in a vertical line in the bkg. to the right of Sutton's hat, extending into the brim of the hat. 8" vertical tear running down the middle right of Sutton's face and extending to the bottom border. This had tape repair on the back and poster had pin holes, tears, and paper loss to poster margins. Fortunately, much of the paper loss and damage was confined to the bottom half of the poster, the Invisible Man image suffered comparatively little damage. Overall, the poster was in Fair condition prior to linen-mounting. An expert restorer mounted and restored the poster, including complete restoration and filling in of margins. Additional restoration was carried out to .5" circle are between Hardwicke's eyes, top of test tube and vertical line between H.G. Wells' name. While you can see signs of the restoration under black light, it displays wonderfully from any reasonable viewing distance. As fold and border issues have been professionally restored, poster now displays Exc. A very desirable poster that rarely comes up for sale, this the first example we've offered in our 51 years.
