Item Description
5/8" long made by cutting the "Liberty" head from the official United States braided hair large cent. DeWitt notes a 15/16" vertical pin on the reverse. The present example has a hand soldiered 1.25" long pin. These were advertised in anti-war newspapers w/the title "Genuine Copperhead or Badge of Liberty". Their cost was 15¢ each or $80 per 1,000. Moderate wear most notably along the left edge. Fine.
