Item Description
17x20" frame contains two acetate sheets that have been double-matted to 9x12" in a multi-plane format, appearing as they did in a c. 1970 animated TV commercial. Cels feature 2.5x2.25" image of Quisp hovering in the air, a color copy of a box of "Quisp" cereal in his hand, as if handing it to the 5.5x6.75" image of Quake. Both Quisp and Quake were completely hand-painted. "Quisp" and "Quake" cereals were originally released in 1965 in the US by the Quaker Oats Company and generally advertised together (during the same commercial) w/their character mascots competing against each other. The successful ads were cartoons created by Jay Ward, who also created the cartoon characters Rocky and Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, and many others. This is Quake after his 1969 makeover, which slimmed him down and changed his miner hat for an Australian bush hat and Australian accent. Professionally framed and matted under UV Plexiglas w/color copy printed bkg. Exc. Comes w/pair of 10.5x12.5" sheets of animation paper featuring lead and blue pencil original art. Each sheet is devoted to either Quisp (who is shown holding red pencil square for cereal box w/handwritten "Cut Cel - Make Guide - Mount Stat" note) or Quake. Quaker's art indicates that he would be holding a box of his cereal, though framed art does not show this. Art is Exc.
