Item Description
3.25" tall Happy Hooligan bisque nodder is the earliest of the comic nodders produced. Underside is marked "Germany," 1920s. Back does not have incised character name as seen on later nodders. Head has some even dust soiling, but o/w nodder remains clean w/little wear. Fine/VF. Comes w/two Mutt and Jeff nodder sets made in Germany by Hertwig, 1920s. From "Mutt And Jeff" comic strip that began in 1907. Each has their respective name and "Germany" incised on back. Smaller set measures 2.25" and 2.75" tall while large set measures 3-3/8" and 4.25" tall. Smaller set shows just trace wear and is Exc. w/tight elastic. Larger set has some lt. scattered wear and is VF/Exc. overall. Nicer than typically found.
