Item Description
Pair of 10x12.5" acetate sheets, each w/bw photocopy of lobby card for the 1948 Columbia "Superman" serial starring Kirk Alyn, the first actor to portray the Man of Steel. Due to the shortcomings of movie special effects at the time, animation similar to that in Max Fleischer's Superman cartoon shorts was used to depict Superman in flight in the live-action serial. First cel (marked "57" at lower right) features just .5" long cape image w/Superman's body on a separate cel. Scattered age spotting. VF overall. Second cel (marked "218" at lower right) features tiny .25" long black and gray tone image of Superman in flight, though lacking in detail, as most of these cels were. Some lt. dust soiling at margins, but VF/Exc. overall. Very rare, w/very few examples known to remain in existence. Franco Toscanini Collection.
