Item Description
High quality outfit by A.S. Fishbach and sold at Macy's as well as being offered as a Gum Inc. premium. 1940. Two versions of the shirt were produced, both w/sleeves and sleeveless. This is version w/sleeves; 14.75" wide at shoulders, 20" tall w/50.5" armspan. Silk-screened design on chest features "S" emblem w/"Superman" name above ("S" is red variety, also produced in blue). Scattered soiling to one arm w/widespread moisture staining to upper sleeves and front/back of shirt. Scattered white areas of fading as folded; non affecting chest design, which remains bold. Shirt is VG overall but still nice for display. Pants are 33" long. Front features great silk-screened design depicting Superman's trunks and legs w/additional images at waist area of two different full body Superman poses and belt w/pair of "S" accents, setting it apart from other playsuits of the era. Scattered soiling to lower left leg and back of pants. Right has 1" hole at knee and crotch has 2x2" hole. VG. Despite issues, silk-screened designs remain strong and complete. Missing cape. Among the rarest and best of all Superman playsuits, all versions being very rare.
