Item Description
Here are a rare pair of first we've seen 1927-1931 era pocket mirrors. First is 2-1/8" real photo. Mirror somewhat cloudy but only a few hairlines and silvering dots missing. Gilbert and Garbo first co-starred in the 1926 film "Flesh and the Devil." They had highly publicized love affair but Garbo always balked at marriage. This mirror promotes film "Love" from 1927, their second time on screen together and the text on the mirror is cleverly phrased as: Christmas Greetings From John Gilbert In Love With Greta Garbo". Gilbert was nicknamed "The Great Lover" and he rivaled Valentino as a box office draw. Cello. is Exc. displaying Mint. Second is 2-7/8" tall oval color tinted real photo of Garbo. Mirror silvering bit dark on outer edge but 98% complete. Garbo stares, head down, eyes up, directly at the viewer. Her name is at lower right. Below in blue is illustration of ancient Egyptian woman playing a harp. Text is "Polvas Adherentes Para El Cutis Nilo Azul" which we roughly translate as "Blue Nile Face Powders For The Skin". Issued c. 1930-1931. Cello has tiny tan dot on her forehead and shallow pinpoint nick on her nose. Minor light surface wear in reflected light. VF. Both rare. See next lot of Garbo buttons.
