Item Description
9x11.25" leatherette-like cover spiral-bound 180 page catalog by Chicago book matches producer and supplier. Contents include 115 mounted match cover examples in addition to hundreds of others shown by illustration. Of note, two-page spread of Glamour Girls" features pin-up art by George Petty. Pages are segmented into various major styles by index tabs and final pages include a very thorough listing of all pictured examples for sponsors of all sorts including car emblems, fraternal groups, political campaigns, restaurants, many other services. Glamour and pin-up novelties for taverns and bars are given considerable attention and eight pages are devoted to illustrated covers for automobiles and related automotive products such as gasoline and oil companies. No apparent date although 1950s as noted by pictured car models. Of note, one matchbook cover sample in restaurant/food section features stereotypical depiction of African-American "Mammy" character advertising fried chicken. Covers have slight warp, but hard plastic spiral binding is complete. Majority of pages have clean, fresh appearance. A few of the metallic matchbook overs exhibit moderate aging and are Fine overall. One page is missing one matchbook cover sample. Rest are VF to Exc. Great overview of the times when matchbook advertising was in its heyday.
