Item Description
Lot of five newspaper-issued buttons, ranging from 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" dia. and issued in the 1930s. Two cello and three tin litho by Green Duck. All are contest buttons and feature serial numbers as well as contest-specific backpapers on the two cello buttons (litho buttons did not come w/backpapers). All feature Popeye image, "S.F. Examiner" and "Sunday Examiner" have same portrait. Both rims are marked "Offset Gravure Corp." Other newspapers include two different "New York Evening Journal" and "Los Angeles Evening Herald & Express." Some lt. scattered surface wear/aging, buttons are VF to Exc. Comes w/3.25x4.25" membership card for "New York Evening Journal Popeye Club" which has been neatly filled out on provided line. Pin holes at top center and along bottom, which has some surface paper lift, not offensive. Fine overall. Rare. Card and two of the buttons are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
