Item Description
5" long torpedo decoder comes w/heavily worn 6x7", four-page instruction folder w/"Undercover Deputy" certificate. Issued by Post Toasties in 1942 and one of the toughest premiums to find. "Undercover Deputy" certificate includes facsimile Winslow signature and has been signed in pencil by original recipient. Two interior pages have instructions on using the premium while back includes lists of deputy duties. Folder shows heavy and obvious wear and is just Fair. Torpedo has cardboard body w/paper label covering, removable wooden nose and metal fin. Body is marked "Don Winslow - Undercover Deputy" and the movable nose includes alphabet and numbers for use as decoder. One side of metal fin is dull while the other has shiny luster to be used as a "Heliograph" to flash secret messages. Fin has scattered pinpoint spots of oxidation while torpedo body shows some lt. scattered wear. Fine overall. Ingenious and very rare World War II premium. Both are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
