Item Description
Frederick Burr Opper's "Happy Hooligan" debuted March 11, 1900 and ran for three decades, ending Aug. 14, 1932. Offered here is lot of 10 items featuring Opper's creation. 10x14x1" deep cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains parts for Milton Bradley Co. game. ©1925 Int'l Feature Service, Inc. Box lid shows obvious edge wear w/tape repairs to inner edge and moderate surface paper splits along edges. Lower left corner of lid is missing 2.25" and 3" pieces of side panels. Penciled name on main lid panel. Box is Good/VG. Die-cut figures range in height from 4" to 8.5" tall. Each is attached to heavy cardboard backing piece of wood that allows character to stand upright for game use to be knocked over by cork-firing rifle (cork is present but generic rifle is missing). Figures remain bright, clean and glossy. Exc. Scarce. Seven approx. 3.5x5.5" postcards date to 1904-1906 and all feature different images. All are unused. Scattered lit. aging/edge wear. Fine to VF overall. 1-5/8" and 2.5" stickpins feature different figural depictions of Happy Hooligan, one w/single color paint wash while other has more detailed paint job. This example has some aging/wear. c. 1910. Fine overall. Postcards and one stickpin are the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
