Item Description
15" tall doll w/molded plastic face, rubber hands and felt coat/cap/body w/wire armature within. Doll is complete w/original cloth belt, correct vinyl apron (w/slit and w/"Humphrey The Happy Blacksmith - Joe Palooka's Pal" text) and 1.5" dia. cello button w/"Hi! Humphrey Good Luck" text and horseshoe image. Ideal Novelty & Toy Co. © Ham Fisher, 1940s. 2x3" double-sided cardboard tag w/Humphrey images hangs from button at collar and has promotional text about doll. Tag is aged and has some creases. Fine. Doll's hands have darkened/hardened w/age and felt outfit has some fading as is typical w/this doll. Fine overall. Button shows trace wear but remains glossy and Exc. Rare doll. Comes w/three buttons, .75" to 1.5" dia., including second doll button. Other buttons are tin litho and feature Joe Palooka. One was promotional button issued w/"Joe Palooka Cap" and other shows Palooka in boxing pose. Back is marked Presidents Novelty & Jewelry Co. Buttons show some lt. scattered wear and are VF overall. Doll is the actual example shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
